1 MARCH, 2018 UPDATE: THE VENUE FOR OUR SIGNING OF RUKUTIA TE MANA IS NOW RAKETAPAUMA MARAE, IRIRANGI
Rukutia te mana kia ora ai te iwi. Tēnei te karanga ki kautau kia hoki mai ki te kāinga, ki a Koro Ruapehu, kia whakanui ai tēnei kaupapa whakaharahara o tātau, ara ko Rukutia Te Mana. E te iwi, kia ora.
Last year uri voted with an overwhelming 99-percent endorsement of the Crown’s offer to settle our historic Treaty of Waitangi claims. While our Road to Settlement has been a long journey, the next step for us as Ngāti Rangi is the formal signing of Rukutia te Mana on Saturday 10 March. (The signing will be on Koro Ruapehu, Tūroa).
This historic iwi event is not only an opportunity for us to acknowledge all those who have contributed to the Treaty journey but to also celebrate as we look towards our vibrant existence in the next 1,000 years.
As we continue with preparations and planning, the Ngāti Rangi Trust are pleased to be able to share our event programme for the weekend:
Friday 9 March
4pm Pōwhiri at Maungārongo Marae, 36 Burns Street, Ohakune followed by kai, karakia and wānanga
Saturday 10 March
6am Parakuihi
7am Karakia
7.15am Buses leave for Maunga
7.45am All arrive on Maunga
9am Pōwhiri Nga Iwi o te Motu
10.30am Pōwhiri Crown
11.30am Signing ceremony
1pm Hākari
2.30-3pm Kua mutu and Karakia
Transport to Tūroa ski field for our Signing is free and accommodation for uri is available at Maungārongo Marae for both Friday and Saturday night. We are expecting a large number of whānau to be returning home for this historic event.
