Welcome to the opening to a new world
Ngāti Rangi’s eco-tourism initiative, Te Ara Mangawhero, is a 21 km hiking and cycling trail connecting Tūroa and Ohakune on the flanks of Mount Ruapehu.
This trail allows us to uphold our responsibilities as tangata tiaki o te taiao, celebrating our role as mana whenua and strengthening the connection between Ngāti Rangi and our whenua, awa and koro Ruapehu.
The 11km loop of stage one, is now open!
Kaitiakitanga in action, the build and preparation of the trail has been lead by Ngāti Rangi's Pae Whakahaumaru.
