Ngāti Rangi Agreement in Principle – Signing Ceremony
Over the last two years, Ngāti Rangi’s negotiation team have been progressing negotiations with the Crown towards an Agreement in Principle for the settlement of Ngāti Rangi’s historical Treaty of Waitangi claims.
We are pleased to inform you that, the signing ceremony for the Ngāti Rangi Agreement in Principle will be held on Wednesday 15 March, 12.15pm in the Banquet Hall, the Beehive, Wellington.
An Agreement in Principle is a standard document in the Treaty negotiations process and will be signed by the Ngāti Rangi Trust and the Crown. This is a significant milestone in Ngāti Rangi’s journey to settlement; however, it is not the end of the journey. There is still more work to do in the months ahead to agree a Deed of Settlement with the Crown.
We sincerely apologise for the very short notice, but the final date and time for the Agreement in Principle signing had only been confirmed late this afternoon.
As some of you may be aware, the final reading of the Te Awa Tupua (Whanganui River Claims Settlement) Bill will also occur on Wednesday 15 March, commencing at 9.00am at Parliament. We intend to celebrate this auspicious occasion with our awa whanaunga.
In preparation for both the Te Awa Tupua final reading and our AIP signing, we have arranged transportation from Raetihi and Ohakune and accommodation at Pipitea Marae, Wellington for Tuesday 14 March, for those who would like to attend.
Below is the programme and travel logistics. To book transport and accommodation, or to otherwise confirm your availability to attend the Agreement in Principle signing please contact the office on 0800 N RANGI or events@ngatirangi.com. For those living in the wider Wellington area, please feel free to meet us at Pipitea Marae or at Parliament on Wednesday morning at 9.00am.
