Fancy a chance to head to the hills and explore some of the lesser-known tracks and trails of Tukino, Karioi and Rangataua? The inaugural Ruapehu Express is on Saturday 27 February. There are a number of different options with 55-kilometre and 21-kilometre mountain bike rides along with 15-kilometre and 21-kilometre run/walk distances and through our mahi with the event management team we've:
Two FREE entries (any of the options) & Mountain Bike rentals to GIVE AWAY along with a number of HALF-PRICE entries!
Over the last six months Ngāti Rangi's Taiao team have been working closely with organisers to identify and mitigate any cultural and environmental concerns that could possibly arise from running such an event. This has not only helped us contribute to laying the foundations of our mahi around a large-scale events but also assisted with further developing our expectations for any events being held in the rohe.
As a part of this, during the Express we're having our own marshals who will be undertaking live monitoring in and around some of our sensitive areas and wetlands. While most of the tracks and trails are well-used, formed tracks, monitoring the impacts will help complement and inform other work we're already doing in the area especially around Rangataua.
